Teaching 
activities
 
My current teaching activities cover plant ecology, plant physiology with special emphasis on mineral nutrition, and plant anatomy. More specialized courses comprise membrane-bound transport systems, mineral nutrition, heavy metal toxicity, regulation of ion uptake, and the adaptation of plants to oxygen deficiency, salt stress or acidic or calcareous soils. A focus is on a consequent ‘clear out’ of obsolete knowledge to make room for new information which is more relevant to the respective subject. This is true, in particular, in areas where molecular techniques have allowed major breakthroughs in the past decade, but should also be applied, with respect to both contents and form, in more classical fields such as plant anatomy and ecology.
